Gladstone Gardens
Giving back to the local community by creating a sense of destination and injecting energy
Situated in the heart of Barry, Wales, Gladstone Gardens is a much-loved green space, offering a peaceful retreat alongside its lively sports fields.
Our project introduced two vibrant murals that celebrate the park’s identity through storytelling and artistic expression. Inspired by local flora, fauna, and nearby sports grounds, the designs reflect the area’s energy, history, and sense of place. Carefully curated colour palettes echo the natural surroundings, enhancing the park’s visual character.
The first mural, located in the sensory garden, takes inspiration from local flowers, arranged in a kaleidoscope pattern that blends abstract and organic forms. The second mural captures the dynamism of the sports fields, incorporating the markings and textures of football, tennis, and basketball courts to create an abstract composition full of movement and energy.
Community engagement was central to the design process. Gladstone Primary School pupils explored local nature and wildlife in a creative workshop, while residents of Golau Caredig shared their memories of the Gardens, ensuring the artwork resonates with both past and present.
